On Friday, April 17th, 2020, the Guidance Department at Tech will be facilitating a day of social emotional learning digitally. The crisis we are all in has challenged us now more than ever to find creative ways to manage what's in front of us. We are being pushed and pulled in so many directions that often times its difficult to know what should happen first or second. The day is dedicated to the idea that we all must take a moment to pay close attention to ourselves first before we attempt to take care of others. We must be at our very best in order to properly care for those around us. The Brooklyn Tech community is heartbroken and saddened by the tragic news that beloved Social Studies teacher Mr. Andrew Decker has passed away suddenly a few days ago. The National Society of Black Engineers, the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation, and ASCE are hosting Brooklyn Tech’s Tenth Annual Engineers Month (March 4th, 2020 to March 31st, 2020). Once again, Brooklyn Technical High School showed itself to be the best chess team in New York City as it dominated the 54th Greater NY Scholastic Chess Championships that were held this weekend, February 1 & 2, at the Brooklyn Marriott Hotel. With over 1700 players registered for the tournament, the competition was tough, including no less than 8 Chess Master Players. For more info and results click headline.

National School Counseling Week 2020, "School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans," will be celebrated from Feb. 3rd -7th, 2020, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Please be advised that the New York City - Department of Education grading input problem has been rectified, which means that Mid Year Reports will begin to be sent out starting tomorrow. Also, be aware that this process will take two weeks. Also, please note that most universities are aware of the issue since NYC- DOE is the largest school system in the country.

The Brooklyn Tech Parent Association and Alumni Foundation are gearing up for our 4th Annual Benefit Auction, Thursday, May 14th at Berg’n in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, 6:30-10:30 PM. This event raises funds for the Brooklyn Tech Faculty Grants Program, a collaboration between the PA and Alumni Foundation that supports myriad academic and extracurricular programs at Brooklyn Tech.

Please be advised that testing accommodations for the College Board and ACT are NOT AUTOMATIC. Although a student may receive testing accommodations in school, it does not mean the student will automatically be granted testing accommodations on College Board exams. What Is Red Ribbon Week? It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. The Red Ribbon Campaign® was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. Congratulations and welcome to Tech. We are looking for freshmen who are interested in taking a leadership class. The leadership class is offered tenth period. It is a class that teaches leadership skills and gives you the opportunity to use those skills by working on and organizing school events. Some of these events will happen after school and on weekends. Students will be graded. This class is a great way to get to know the school and the events can be fun. Joining the class will result in a longer school day. You will work with school leaders and become an integral part of the student government. Dive into a book of your choice this summer! Check out the (required) summer reading assignment here for ALL Tech students, including incoming freshman and sophomores. Please note that some students have course-specific assignments (check Z-codes in PupilPath). Additionally, all rising seniors must have a draft of a college essay going into the year. Remember, you worked on this with your 11th-grade teacher in the spring, and you are welcome to revise and rewrite over the summer. Click the headline for more details.

Brooklyn Tech offers music courses in Band, Chorus and Orchestra (violin, viola, cello & bass). Music is an elective class, therefore you must register for it. | BTHS Student a Congressional Institute Visual Art Awardee!!! |
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Vidiya Dawah’s artwork was the winning piece for the 8th Congressional District of New York. For more info click headline.
| Naval Award To Weston Research Student |
Harpreet Kaur has received a special award from the United States Office of Naval Research for her investigations in which she has been developing a bio-mimetic drone eel, which uses pneumatic actuated muscles for locomotion. The other source of the submersible drone is solar hydrogen electricity derived from a fuel cell reactor connected to flexible solar panels, which serve as the waterproofed skin of the drone eel. Ms. Kaur participated in the 2019 Regeneron STS and won awards and 3rd place in the 2019 NYCSEF. Click headline for more info.

Congratulations JV Boys Basketball on Winning The Divison Championship by defeating Van Arsdale HS yesterday .. The Team was led in scoring by Jackson Katz 23 points and 18 Rebounds, plus Len Yang 17points and 6 Steals, and Josh Senior 11points and 10 Steals..it was a great Team accomplishment, winning the PSAL Division Championship outright... The Boys Thank All the Parents, Staff and amazing Students for supporting all year. Now lets get ready for the Playoffs.... Go Tech.

| "Praying for Rain" Honored!!! |
This year's fall Play "Praying for Rain" was nominated for the prestigious Shubert Foundation HS Theatre Awards. Each year students vie to be in the top five spots which are showcased on a Broadway stage. Brooklyn Tech came within the top seven schools in the entire city-competing against every theatre school imaginable from every borough, including LaGuardia and Morrow. Brooklyn Tech's production of PFR is honorably mentioned and will be acknowledged at the award ceremony next month at the Music Box Theatre. We are extremely proud of our actors, StageWorks technicians and staff who work so hard on all productions, but particularly the fall play. Reach for the stars and the moon! Go thespians!

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT: THE BTHS BOYS WIN THE PSAL 2018-2019 CITY CHAMPIONSHIP!
On Saturday 2/16/19 the BTHS Boys decisively claimed 1st place with 67 team points while Christopher Columbus Campus took 2nd with 48 points and dethroned 2-time champion Susan Wagner could only muster 42. The BTHS Girls put up a great fight but no team was able to stop Paul Robeson Campus HS from winning the title this season.
